ORANGE, Calif. – Senior attacker Emily Hansen (Seal Beach, Calif.) had a big night for the Whittier College Women's Lacrosse team recording her 100th career point in a 19-8 loss to Chapman University.
The Purple & Gold have now dropped five in a row and move to 3-11, 0-7 SCIAC.
Chapman struck first two minutes in from Alexandra Callaway but saw Whittier tie things up four minutes later from Lexie Meanor (Sewickley, PA) who was fed by Hansen. This though would be the closest Whittier would get as the Panthers would rattle off nine straight to go on top 10-1. Over the final 8:00 minutes of the half Whittier made a push scoring four from Meanor, Gabby Boller (Howell, NJ), Sarah Morgan (Tustin, Calif.), and Hansen but they still saw themselves trailing 13-5 at intermission.
In the second half Chapman strung together three straight that made it a double digit deficit. Hansen would tally back to back responses within two minutes of each other to move the score to 16-7. But WC wouldn't get back on the scoreboard until the 1:01 mark with Morgan connecting for her second of the game.
Madison Topping (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) played between the posts and recorded 12 saves against 31 shots. She also added a career high 13 groundballs. Offensively Hansen finished with three goals and an assist, while Meanor and Morgan each added two tallies and an assist.
Whittier turned the ball over 26 times but won 13 draw controls, totaled 27 groundballs, was 16for-22 on clear attempts and 2-for-3 on free-positions.
Whittier returns to action this Saturday, April 13 when they travel to take on Pomona-Pitzer beginning at 11:00am.
