Destinee Unabia embarks on her first year coaching at Whittier College, bringing over 11 years of experience in track and field to the Poets program. As the new long jump and triple jump coach, she is eager to inspire and elevate her athletes, combining her personal experience as a former Poet and her passion for developing well-rounded student-athletes.

A proud 2019 alumna from South El Monte, CA, Unabia competed for the Poets during the 2016 and 2017 seasons, participating in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays as well as the long jump and triple jump events. At Whittier College, she was an active leader on campus, serving as a member of the Poet Student-Athlete Leadership Academy (PSALA) and Vice President of the Phi Epsilon Kappa Kinesiology Honor Society.

Unabia earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Pre-Physical Therapy from Whittier College. While her original focus was physical therapy, her dedication to healthcare led her to pursue a Master of Science in Nursing, which she completed in 2023 at the University of San Francisco. In hopes of opening her own nonprofit organization in the future, she is currently advancing her education by working toward a Doctor of Nursing Practice, Family Nurse Practitioner degree from the University of San Francisco and a Master of Nonprofit Administration from Louisiana State University – Shreveport.

Beyond the track, Unabia contributes to the Whittier community as a registered nurse at PIH Health, where she combines her medical expertise with a passion for service. Her multifaceted background uniquely equips her to inspire her athletes both on and off the field, fostering a culture of perseverance, balance, and excellence.
