Coaching Accomplishments
Chris Duarte-McDermott was named the Head Volleyball Coach at Whittier College in 2013 and has put together an impressive eleven year tenure compiling a 131-139, 77-83 SCIAC record. In 2015, 2017 and 2023 he earned trips to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament and then qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships as an At-Large bid in 2017 after going 18-9, 10-6 SCIAC.Â
Over his eleven years he has had thirten Poets earn All-SCIAC recognition, two SCIAC Newcomer of the Years (2017 - Ashley Whittall, 2023- Mia D'Amato), a SCIAC Character Award Winner (2023- Analise Kusleika), two AVCA All-West Region selections (Makenzie Thieme & Rebecca Slattery) and was named the SCIAC Coach of the Year (2015).
He has coached teams to NCAA Division III West Regional Rankings (2017 – No. 3) (2018 – No. 8) and currently serves as the Chair of the Division III West Region Volleyball Committee.  Â
Prior to Whittier College Chris served as an Assistant Coach at Texas A&M International University (2012) and Pasadena City College (2010-12). From 2009-12 he was served as the Head Volleyball Coach at Claremont High School and has also been a Head Volleyball Coach/Development Head at Pacific Juniors Volleyball Club, Arsenal Volleyball Academy, and Club West Volleyball.Â
Education
Chris graduated from the University of La Verne ‘09 with his B.S. in Athletic Training and then attended Concordia (Irvine) ’15 earning his M.A. in Coaching and Athletic Administration. Chris currently resides in Chino, Calif. with his wife Mika.Â
