WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Soccer team continues to impress as they pulled out a 2-1 decision and their first win of 2018 on Sunday afternoon against the University of Dallas.

The Purple & Gold improve now to 1-0-1, while the Crusaders drop to 0-1-1.

Whittier put University of Dallas in an early hole scoring the first goal :39 seconds into the contest coming off the foot of Kanoe Morihara (Mililani, HI) who took a strike off the crossbar, which she recovered to finish into the back of the net.

The Poets added to their lead in the 28th minute but this time from Jazmin Gomez (Norwalk, Calif.) who dribbled into the box, while taking space before finishing to the bottom left corner of the goal putting WC on top 2-0 at the break.

Despite being outshot 8-2 in the first half and 15-5 for the game, the Crusaders managed to cut the deficit in half in the 66th minute from Mason Cosgrove who was fed by Whitney Jackson off a corner in the box.  But that was the last offense generated by Uni. of Dallas as the Poet defensive unit limited them to just two shots over the final 20:00 minutes.

Stella Thermos (Seal Beach, Calif.) earned the win in goal, as she grabbed three saves against four shots faced in 90 minutes of action.  She improves to 1-0-1.

Yzabal led the offensive attack taking five shots with three being on goal.  Morihara, Gomez, and Isabela Vargas (Newberg, OR) each registered two.  As a team the Poets put seven balls on frame.

Whittier opens up Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play this Wednesday, September 5 when they host Chapman University beginning at 7:00pm.
