CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Soccer team looked to keep their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Post Season Tournament hopes alive Wednesday night but were held scoreless in a 2-0 loss to Pomona-Pitzer.

Whittier has now dropped to 5-5-5, 4-5-4 SCIAC and currently sit 7th in the SCIAC Standings.  Pomona-Pitzer improves to 11-3-2, 8-3-2 SCIAC and have clinched their eight-straight SCIAC Post Season Tournament berth.

Offense was tough to come by for the Purple & Gold as they were outshot 24-2 and were shutout on corner kicks 3-0.  The two shots were both on frame and came from Jazmin Gomez (Norwalk, Calif.) and Janelle Guzman (Montebello, Calif.).

Vanessa Martinez (La Mirada, Calif.) got the start and allowed a goal with four saves in the first half.  Stella Thermos (Seal Beach, Calif.) played the second half and picked up six saves, while allowing the second goal.

Pomona-Pitzer added the eventual game-winner with two minutes to play before the half.  Helena Robinowitz finished a cross from Brianna Lau giving PP a lead 1-0 at intermission.  They then doubled their lead in the second half as Lau played in another cross that found the foot of Bria VarnBuhler in the 59th minute.

Whittier has their final game of 2018 this Saturday, October 27 when they host Caltech beginning at 7:00pm on Senior Night.
