ORANGE, Calif. – For the fourth consecutive game the Whittier College Women's Soccer team has not been able to find the back of the net as they picked up their fifth tie on the season Wednesday night, coming against Chapman University.
Four of the five ties on the season have been scoreless draws as Whittier moves to 1-3-5, 1-1-3 SCIAC.
These two teams met back on September 14 in a non-conference bout and that game finished in a 1-1 tie. Whittier played tough defensively all night despite seeing Chapman fire off 31 shots, 19 of which came in the first half.
Whittier took five shots on the game with three coming from Joey Wescott (Agoura Hills, Calif.) and another two from Makayla Moraga (Whittier, Calif.) and Logan Cervantes (Torrance, Calif.). Four of the five shots were also on frame with the first coming in the 23rd minute from Wescott who found an opening before firing off a strike that Chapman keeper Kelsey Bland would stop. She then returned 13 minutes later and found another opening and this time took a strike bottom center but again it would get turned away by Bland.
Vanessa Martinez (La Mirada, Calif.) once again was solid between the posts playing all 110:00 minutes, while collecting 12 saves.
Whittier remains on the road this Saturday, October 5 when they travel to take on Claremont-M-S beginning at 7:00pm.
