CLAREMONT, Calif. – For the fifth straight game the Whittier College Women's Soccer team has been held scoreless as they dropped a 3-0 decision to Claremont-M-S on the road Saturday night.
The Purple & Gold are now 0-2-3 over their last five games and currently sit 1-4-5, 1-2-3 SCIAC.
The first goal from the Athenas came off a set piece in the 33rd minute as Lizzie Iwicki took a free kick from the left side of the field. The pass rolled outside the top of the 18-yard box to Ava Sherry who gathered the pass and sent a left-footed shot upper-left corner. This gave CMS a 1-0 lead at the break.
In the second half CMS added to their lead with two strikes coming within four minutes of each other. The first in the 83rd minute from Vida Hasson who one-timed a pass on top of the 18-yard box from Sherry. A few minutes later the Athenas added insurance as Sarah Tocher took a pass from Rhiann Holman inside the box before rattling off a shot off the inside of the left post.
Vanessa Martinez (La Mirada, Calif.) played all 90:00 minutes and finished with 10 saves against 13 shots. Whittier failed to get off a shot over the course of the game being blanked 21-0. They were also held without a corner kick at 5-0.
Whittier returns to the pitch this Wednesday, October 9 when they host Caltech beginning at 7:00pm.
