MALIBU, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's & Women's Swimming and Diving Teams hit the water for the first time this season against Div. I, Div. II, and Div. III competition at the Malibu Invite on the campus of Pepperdine University.

The early season Invite showed that the Purple & Gold had little rust from last season as Megan Thai (Alhambra, CA) and Becca Ayers (La Habra, Calif.) won the 1M and 3M boards with scores of 206.45 and 193.45, respectively.

Brenda Shanahan (San Ramon, Calif.) got her hand to the wall in 1:04.19 to finish 2nd in the 100 IM. Not to be outdone, the men responded with a 2ndplace showing from Brandon Tran (Chicago, Ill.) who stopped the clock in 56.03, and Michael Laws (Anacortes, WA) who got to the wall in 56.85, good enough for 4thplace.

Brooke Geske (San Pedro, CA) picked up where she left off last year, winning the 100 BK in 59.38, followed very closely by Lexi Mauldin (Modesto, Calif.) in a 2ndplace time of 1:00.83.

Shanahan returned in the 50 Free sprinting to the wall in 25.71 for a second place finish, and Geske earned a follow up first place finish in the 500 FR, stopping the clock in 5:21.37.

The women's 400 Freestyle Relay of Shanahan, Mauldin, Esther Choe (Mercer Island, WA), and Geske capped off the afternoon with a 2nd place finish in 3:48.96.
