Poets swept by Division II Grand Canyon

WHITTIER, Calif. - The Whittier College women's tennis team got a visit from Division II Grand Canyon University on Saturday afternoon and suffered its first loss of the season. The Poets were swept, 9-0, on an overcast day at the Richard Ettinger Tennis Courts.

Whittier (2-1) got a solid effort out of the No. 3 doubles team of Elizabeth Reitzell and Reme Bohlin. The duo came the closest to earning a win for the purple and gold but fell 8-5.

Lauren Gelgur was one of five Poets on the singles side of competition to steal a win from Grand Canyon. Gelgur picked up two wins in the second set but lost 6-0, 6-2, at No. 2 singles.

Maryrose Vigorita won two games in the first set but dropped the match, 6-2, 6-0, at the No. 4 singles position.

Kady Oliker, Victoris Curtis and Bohlin all won one game during their matches.

The Poets return to action on Friday, February 12, as they hit the road to face Biola University at 2 pm.
