WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Tennis team dropped their second straight match falling 7-2 to Trinity (CT) at the Richard Ettinger Tennis Courts.
For the second straight match the Purple & Gold battled in doubles trying to get an early lead. Amanda Rodriguez (Glendora, Calif.) and Kindall Yeung (Brea, Calif.) made quick work of their opponents at the top spot winning 8-1 putting WC on top 1-0 early. Madeline Schmidt-Perez (San Marino, Calif.) and Avery Turner (Austin, TX) put together a strong performance at No. 2 taking an early lead only to see it go away en route to falling 8-6. At No. 3, Kallysta Lopez (Whittier, Calif.) and Stacey Bendanillo (Brawley, Calif.) stayed strong throughout and despite giving up a large lead were able to pull through in a breaker 8-7 (5).
Whittier found themselves in familiar territory leading 2-1 after doubles but couldn't hold the slight lead getting swept in singles allowing the Bantams to come back to pull off the victory. Rodriguez battled in her match at No. 2 but couldn't overcome a pair of breaks falling 6-4, 6-3. Turner had a strong performance at No. 3 but she too was broken in each set dropping 6-4, 6-4.
Lopez, at No. 4 fought falling 6-4 in the opening set but managed to claw her way back to take the second before dropping 10-8 in the third set super tie-breaker.
