WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Tennis team fell unfortunate over the weekend going on top 3-0 against Principia College before seeing the match called due to inclement weather.
The Purple & Gold got out on top quickly 3-0 following doubles and were in the middle of singles when the rain came. After a long delay the match was called.
Madeline Schmidt-Perez (San Marino, Calif.) and Stacey Bendanillo (Brawley, Calif.) rolled 8-0 at No. 3 to get the first point. Avery Turner (Austin, TX) and Kallysta Lopez (Whittier, Calif.) surrendered just a game at No. 2 winning 8-1. But at No. 1 is where the battle took place with Kindall Yeung (Brea, Calif.) and Amanda Rodriguez (Glendora, Calif.) needing one break to pull off the 8-6 win at the top spot.
In singles, Whittier was in control. Rodriguez, Turner, and Lopez each won their opening sets at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 6-0. Kiara Embrey (Los Angeles, Calif.) won her opening frame as well 6-1 and Julie Cutler (Salt Lake City, UT) was in front 5-2. Lopez was close to finishing leading 4-0 second set and Rodriguez and Turner were each up a game but they weren't able to complete any matches.
