WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Tennis team had a strong day rolling Willamette University 7-2 at the Richard Ettinger Tennis Courts.

The Purple & Gold avenged their 2018 5-4 loss to the Bearcats by handling their business and improving to 3-6.

Whittier got out in front 2-1 after doubles.  Kindall Yeung (Brea, Calif.) and Amanda Rodriguez (Glendora, Calif.) picked up the first point quickly at the top spot winning 8-3 over Sarah Dean and Robin Pashek.  The second point came at No. 2, which came down to a tiebreaker.  Avery Turner (Austin, TX) and Kallysta Lopez (Whittier, Calif.) started off strong but allowed the Bearcast back in it before pulling out the breaker 8-7 (2).

In singles the Poets continued to roll.  Rodriguez won the third point winning in straights 6-3, 6-2.  Lopez made quick work of Marr at No. 4 6-1, 6-0 and Turner clinched the win at No. 3 beating Ginsburg 6-1, 6-1.

Yeung had a battle at the top spot having to play a breaker for the third.  She won the opening set 6-4 before getting edged 6-4 in the second.  But in the third set breaker she was able to come out on top 10-5 for Whittier's sixth point.

Freshman Julie Cutler (Salt Lake City, UT) was inserted into the lineup at No. 6 and after a tight opening set 6-4 she was able to dismiss Andres quickly 6-0 in the second.
