ORANGE, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Tennis team saw their three-match winning streak come to close over the weekend falling 8-1 to Chapman University on the road.
The Purple & Gold now drop to 5-7, 1-1 SCIAC.
Whittier proved tough in doubles. Kallysta Lopez (Whittier, Calif.) and Avery Turner (Austin, TX) battled at No. 2 falling in a breaker 8-7. Then at the top spot Kindall Yeung (Brea, Calif.) and Amanda Rodriguez (Glendora, Calif.) took the Panther duo of Alisa Ogranovich and Madison Ross to an 8-5 frame.
In singles the Poets tried to bounce back with Lopez rolling at No. 4 sweeping Delara Fotovatjah 6-0, 6-0. Madeline Schmidt-Perez (San Marino, Calif.) looked to get the second point for WC at No. 5 winning the opening set 6-2 but couldn't hold on as she fell 6-3, 10-5. Rodriguez had a tough matchup with Ross at No. 2 and after pushing her 6-4 in the opening period couldn't keep it going in the second as she fell 6-2. Turner at No. 3 also played tough against Vasilia Trofimova getting broken once in the opening set 6-4 only to fall 6-2 in the second.
Whittier has a tough weekend coming up traveling to take on No. 4 Pomona-Pitzer, April 5 before turning back around the very next day to go take on No. 2 Claremont-M-S on April 6.
