CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Water Polo team picked up a huge win Thursday night on the road as they edged Claremont-M-S 7-6.

The Purple & Gold have now won six of their last seven and improve to 7-4, 3-1 SCIAC.  They currently sit 3rd in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Standings (SCIAC).

Whittier got off to a quick start 2-0 with Sawyer Bellville (Chino, Calif.) adding a power-play connection and Roni Ramirez (La Habra, Calif.) tacking on another.  In the second period, the Poets stretched their lead with Bellville and Jacqueline Au (Los Angeles, Calif.) finding the back of the goal giving WC a 4-1 lead at the half.

CMS swung the momentum in the 3rd outscoring the Poets 2-1 to get within two at 5-3.  Then in the 4th, a combined five goals were added and despite three of them coming from the Athenas it wouldn't be enough to pull off the comeback.  Teresa Marchetti (Messina, Italy) added the lone goal in the third and then joined Bellville in the final quarter with two tallies that proved crucial for the win.

Whittier outshot Claremont-M-S 22-20 and were at a 3-for-9 clip on power-plays.  Tahlia Pou (Stockton, Calif.) played all 32:00 minutes and posted a career high 13 saves.

Whittier remains in SCIAC play tomorrow, Saturday, March 16 when they host Occidental College with game time set for 11:00am.
