THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Whittier College Women's Water Polo team was knocked out of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Post Season Tournament Friday afternoon falling 12-7 to No. 2 Cal Lutheran University.

The Purple & Gold see their 2019 season end as they finish 13-10, 9-5 SCIAC.

Whittier was riding a three-game winning streak heading into the post-season and clinched the No. 3 seed but couldn't top the Regals on the road as they drop two match-ups against CLU on the season.  The Regals advanced to their second straight SCIAC Championship game and will meet the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens in Claremont, Calif., on Sunday at 2 p.m. The winner will earn a spot in a play-in game for the NCAA Division I Tournament.

The opening two quarters stayed close with the Regals holding a slight 6-4 advantage at the half.  Whittier was held scoreless in the 3rd, while CLU stretched their lead to 8-4.  Then over the final eight minutes Whittier made a push putting up three goals but defensively couldn't stop the Regals as they added four to hold on for the semi-final victory.

Whittier outshot Cal Lutheran 31-21 but was just 1-for-6 on power-plays.  CLU on the other hand was 4-for-6 on 6-on-5's.

Lauren Tapia (Whittier, Calif.) played all 32:00 minutes finishing with five saves and two steals. Roni Ramirez (La Habra, Calif.) and Sawyer Bellville (Chino, Calif.) each added two goals a piece.  Ramirez was also solid on defense inside adding a pair of steals joining Jacqueline Au (Los Angeles, Calif.) who also added two picks.  Marina Daroca Bazan (Barcelona, Spain) found the back of the goal once and also added an assist and Anastacia Gonzalez (Montebello, Calif.) and Amelia Gregorio (Aventura, FL) each put up a tally.
