Avory (Avery) Gonzalez joined the Whittier College Women’s Soccer coaching staff after beginning their collegiate coaching career with the Cal State Dominguez Hills Women’s Soccer program. Gonzalez brings collegiate playing and coaching experience to the Poets, along with a strong commitment to student-athlete development, leadership, and building a competitive team culture.
A native of Southern California, Gonzalez attended Claremont High School before beginning her collegiate playing career at St. Francis College Brooklyn in New York. Gonzalez spent two seasons competing at the NCAA Division I level with the Terriers before transferring to Whittier College.
Gonzalez played three seasons for the Poets and served as a team captain for two years. During their time at Whittier, Gonzalez developed as both a player and leader while gaining valuable experience that helped shape their approach to coaching. Their experience competing at both the NCAA Division I and Division III levels provides a unique perspective on the demands of collegiate athletics and the overall student-athlete experience.
Following their playing career, Gonzalez transitioned into collegiate coaching with Cal State Dominguez Hills Women’s Soccer. While with the Toros, Gonzalez gained experience in student-athlete development, recruiting, training, and the day-to-day operations of a collegiate soccer program.
Gonzalez later returned to Whittier College as a member of the Women’s Soccer coaching staff, returning to the program where they spent three years as a student-athlete. Their coaching philosophy centers on developing the person beyond the player while creating an environment built on accountability, relationships, competitiveness, and consistent growth.
Gonzalez is committed to helping develop strong, confident, and independent women who strive for excellence academically, athletically, and personally. Through a transformational and servant-leadership approach, Gonzalez aims to prepare student-athletes for success throughout their collegiate careers and beyond.
