Branden Thomas is an emerging defensive line coach on the rise, bringing over a decade of coaching experience across the high school, junior college, and collegiate levels. Recently named the Defensive Line Coach at Whittier College, Thomas has quickly built a reputation as a developer of talent, a high-level recruiter, and a coach capable of transforming defensive units.
Most recently, Thomas served as a Defensive Analyst at Eastern Washington University, where he played a key role in the development of the Eagles’ defensive front. Working closely with the defensive line, he helped mentor preseason All-American Tylin Jackson and All-Big Sky performer Isaiah Perez (Second Team). His impact contributed to a significant defensive turnaround, helping Eastern Washington improve from one of the lowest-ranked defenses in the country to a Top-7 unit in the Big Sky Conference. In addition to on-field development, Thomas played a vital role in recruiting efforts, contributing to the commitment of several high-profile prospects in the 2026 class.
A native of Southern California and a former student-athlete at Morehouse College, Thomas combines playing experience with a deep understanding of defensive systems. As a defensive back during his time at Morehouse, he developed the foundation for his coaching philosophy—one rooted in discipline, fundamentals, and maximizing player potential.
Prior to his time at Eastern Washington, Thomas served as the Defensive Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator at Chaffey College. In 2024, his defense ranked #1 in rushing yards allowed, #2 in passing yards allowed, and #3 overall in the Southern California Football Association (SCFA). He helped lead the program to back-to-back league championships while coaching seven All-Conference defensive players and assisting 18 student-athletes in earning Division I scholarships. His recruiting success earned him recognition as the 2024 Recruiter of the Year.
Thomas has also held key coaching positions at prominent high school programs in Georgia, including Eagles Landing Christian Academy and Westlake High School, where he contributed to four consecutive state championships. Throughout his career, he has developed numerous high-level athletes, including AJ Terrell (Clemson / Atlanta Falcons), Nigel Warrior (Tennessee / Seattle Seahawks), Jordan Ferguson (Middle Tennessee State), and Marques Black (University of Connecticut).
Beyond football, Thomas is deeply committed to mentorship and community impact. He is the founder and CEO of Kids R’ Giants, a nonprofit organization focused on empowering underserved youth through education and athletics. He is also a dedicated member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., where he has served in leadership roles supporting community outreach and development initiatives.
Thomas and his wife Brittney are active members of Jack and Jill of America, where they are committed to advancing the organization’s mission of developing African American youth through leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving, and civic engagement. Together, they prioritize service, family, and community impact. They have three children and remain actively involved in youth development initiatives.
