Karley Perine '08 scored sixteen goals to lead
Whittier College to a second place finish at the two-day Chapman
Tournament in Orange, Calif. on February 24 and 25. The Poets
(3-3) won 10-9 over the University of Arizona and 11-9 over the
University of Oregon on day one. They beat Siena College 10-9
in overtime in the semifinals before losing 9-7 to Occidental
College in the finals on day two.
Perine opened the tournament with three goals against
Arizona. Caroline Galvin '08 led the Poets
with four goals in the game. Catherine Gouge '08,
Nicole Sandoval '08 and Ashley Papenbrock
'08 scored one goal apiece.
Against Oregon, Perine and Galvin tallied four goals apiece.
Papenbrock, Sarah Peel '10 and Indre
Lauraitis '10 each scored one goal. Sarah
Wills '09 and Cheryl Bucholtz '07
combined to make eleven saves in goal.
On Sunday in the semifinals against Siena College, Perine scored
six goals, including the game- winner in overtime. Galvin
scored three times in the game and Gouge added one goal.
The Poets faced SCIAC rival Occidental in the final and once again,
Perine and Galvin led Whittier in scoring, with three goals
apiece. Peel added one goal in the loss. Wills and
Bucholtz split time in goal once again and made four saves apiece.
