Whittier College Men's Basketball lost both of its games at the
Surf's Up Classic in Honolulu, HI, on November 28 and 29. The
Poets fell 86-73 to Pacific University (Ore.) on day one and then
lost to another Northwest Conference opponent, George Fox
University, 87-77 on day two.
Against Pacific, the Poets took a ten-point lead into the halftime
break, but the offense struggled in the second half with just nine
field goals. Whittier was outscored 51-28 in the second half
on the way to their third loss of the season. Marcus Gibson
'09 continued to pace the Poet offense with 15 points, including
three field goals from beyond the arc. Michael Archuletta
'09 scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds. Travis
Crow '09 also scored 13 points and Da'Mon Perry '11 pitched in with
11 points and six rebounds.
In game two of the weekend, the second half hurt the Poets
again. After shooting 53% in the first half, Whittier shot
just 39% from the field in the second half. Archuletta led
the Poets with 21 points, seven rebounds and five steals.
Gibson hit four more three-pointers and finished with 20
points. Perry scored 18 points and grabbed seven
rebounds.
The Poets take on Southern California rival La Sierra University on
December 4. The game is scheduled for 7:30pm at the Graham
Athletics Center.
