WHITTIER, Calif. - Freshman Maryrose Vigorita picked up a pair of wins this weekend but it wasn't enough as the Whittier College women's tennis team lost to Biola University, 8-1, on Friday afternoon and fell to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe Occidental, 8-1, on Saturday morning.

Vigorita picked up her first win of the weekend on Friday in No. 3 doubles. She teamed with Katie Davidson as the two freshmen won 9-8 (9-7).

The Ventura, Calif., native returned to the win column on Saturday as she won her singles match. Vigorita earned a 6-4, 6-4 decision at No. 5 singles.

The Poets (0-4, 0-3 SCIAC) also got a strong performance from Rachel Aelion-Moss who lost at No. 2 singles on Friday, 6-3, 4-6, (10-7).

The purple and gold return to the court next Saturday, March 7, as they host the University of Texas-Tyler at 11:00 a.m.
