Zeraatkar Named to Second Team All-SCIAC, First in Five Years

The freshman is Whittier's first All-SCIAC women's tennis player in five years

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (May 2, 2024) – Freshman Chanel Zeraatkar (Stockholm, Sweden) of the Whittier College women's tennis team has been named to Second Team All-SCIAC for the 2024 season.

Zeraatkar is Whittier first all-conference selection since Kindall Yeung '19 during her senior season.

The international freshman made waves throughout the year as one of the Poets' top players and caught the attention of coaches around the conference for playing some of the top competition in Division III women's tennis. She also played first doubles on most occasions. She notably beat the top ranked player at Brandeis University earlier in the season, overcoming a tough second set to win 6-1, 2-6, 11-9 with the final stanza coming in the form of a super tiebreaker.

This is not the only time Zeraatkar has received conference recognition this year. She had notably been named SCIAC Athlete of the Week for the week of Feb. 20 for leading Whittier to its first NCAA victory in almost one calendar year against Lewis & Clark. The Poets won that match 8-1.
