NORTHRIDGE, Calif. –
For the second time this season the Whittier College women's
water polo team defeated Chapman University. This time the Poets
did so after it suffered a loss to Cal State Northridge on Sunday
afternoon.
Whittier
(12-13) never had the game in doubt against the Panthers as it
jumped out to a 4-0 lead through the first eight minutes of the
game.
Chapman
cut the lead to 4-2 at the intermission but the purple and gold
limited them to just two second half goals. The Poets increased
their lead to 7-3 after the third and tacked on three more scores
in the final stanza en route to the 10-4 win.
Katrina Thoreson scored a
team-high four goals in the win and added three steals while
Arianna Weisenburger added two goals and two drawn
ejections.
Sarah Peel, Xenia
Castillo, Melissa Reynoso and
Veronica Becerra all registered goals. Goalie
Anahisa Aguirre made seven saves in the
win.
The
Poets' afternoon got off to a rocky start as Division I Cal
State Northridge handed Whittier a 16-3 defeat. Weisenburger
tallied one goal in the loss while Reynoso had a pair of
scores.
Castillo
picked up two drawn ejections.
Amanda Owen had two
assists and three steals.
Whittier
returns to action on Wednesday as it travels to face SCIAC foe
Redlands at 5 pm.
