CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier women's tennis team took to the courts Friday afternoon at the Pauley Tennis Complex but dropped a 9-0 decision to Pomona-Pitzer.
The Sagehens, who are ranked No. 6 nationally, jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after doubles.
The Poets (1-2) fought hard in the No. 2 spot but freshman Chloe Dredge and junior Kady Oliker fell 8-4.
Whittier entered singles play needing to take 5-of-6 but was unable to do so. However, Whittier did get a great match from freshman Liliana Serylo who battled hard at the No. 1 position. Despite her efforts, she lost 6-2, 6-2 against Jamie Solomon who is ranked No. 3 in the West region.
Dredge, however, had the best match of the day coming at the No. 3 position. She held a break but was unable to hold on as she fell 6-4, 7-5.
The Poets look to come back strong as they return to action Saturday, March 12, as they host Sewanee University at 9 am.
