WHITTIER, Calif. – Freshman Chloe Dredge rolled her individual win streak to six matches but it wasn't enough as No. 24 Redlands defeated the Whittier women's tennis team, 7-2, Saturday afternoon at the Ettinger Tennis Courts.
Dredge's win was against the 17th ranked player in the West Region and came in three sets. After winning the first set, 6-2, Sara Yoshinaga bounced back to even the match with a 6-2 win over her own.
Because the overall match was decided, the two played a pro-set in the deciding set before Dredge emerged with the 10-5 win. For the season she is 7-4 at the third position.
The other Whittier win came at No. 3 doubles where Lauren Gelgur and Maryrose Vigorita won 8-6 over Samantha Dodson and Katherine Guimapang.
Liliana Serylo had a tough match at No. 1 singles as she lost to the ninth ranked player in the West, Rachael Miller, while Adrienne Hamada had an equally tough opponent at No. 2 singles. Hammada faced the 23rd ranked West Region player in Jessica Ly and lost in straight sets.
Serylo lost 6-3, 6-1, and Hamada dropped her match 6-2, 6-1.
Kady Oliker continued her strong play at No. 4 singles as she went all three sets before suffering the loss. Oliker won the first set, 7-6, but dropped consecutive sets 6-4 and 10-4, respectively.
Whittier will return to action next weekend as it takes part in the 2011 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on April 22 and 23.
