ORLANDO, FL.- The Whittier College women's tennis team started their spring break off with a win against George Fox 9-0 in Orlando, Fl.
The Poets improve to 5-5, while George Fox drops to 5-8.
This marks the third straight match the Whittier College women's tennis team has swept their match 9-0 and they now move back to .500.
At No. 3 doubles, senior Kady Oliker and freshman Benay Weintraub returned serve very well and used penetrating groundstroke's to cruise to the 8-0 victory, while the No. 1 and No. 2 teams swept with scores of 8-5, 8-3.
Due to injuries Head Coach David Bojalad sat out Oliker and sophomore Adrienne Hamada and saw his bench players fill in nicely not skipping a beat.
The match of the day belonged to Weintraub though at No. 3 singles who went three sets going just over two hours using grueling rallies to pull off the 6-1, 5-7, 10-7 win.
Freshman Rachel Sugiyama put to rest any hopes of her opponent extending her to three sets by finishing the second set tiebreaker with a 7-0 win.
The Poets play a big match tomorrow against Pacific University who is ranked No. 12 in the west region in their second match on spring break with a regional ranking position at stake.
