WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College women's tennis team dropped their second SCIAC match Friday afternoon as they fell 8-1 to No. 10 Redlands to drop to 0-2 in SCIAC competition.
After getting swept in doubles despite a strong battle at No. 2 with Adrienne Hamada and Benay Weintraub falling 8-5, the Poets were only able to gather a point on the afternoon coming from freshman Maegan Zamilpa who cruised to the straight sets victory at No. 1 winning 6-3, 6-2 over Jessica Ly.
The only other opportunity to achieve a point for the Purple & Gold came at No. 3 from Hamada who fought in both sets only surrendering just a break of serve in each set falling 6-3, 7-5.
Whittier returns to SCIAC play when they take on the Beavers of Caltech, tomorrow, Saturday, March 30 in Pasadena, Calif. with doubles set to begin at 11:00am.
