WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College women's tennis team opened up conference play Friday as they hosted No. 5 Claremont-M-S.  No. 30 Whittier proved to be a test for the Athena's despite falling 7-2 dropping to 4-5 on the season.
In doubles, the Athena's took two of three winning 8-4 and 8-2 at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.  But at No. 3 junior Benay Weintraub and freshman Alexis Agustin pulled off the biggest win of their doubles career coming from behind and fighting off match points to win 9-8 (4) over Yvonne Likomanova and Sheena Patel to keep the Poets in striking distance.
However in singles the Poets were handed five straight set losses from No. 2 - No. 6 with the lone win coming from Meagan Zamilpa at No. 1 who pulled off a tough three setter against Caroline Ward 7-5, 3-6, 10-2.
