WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College women's tennis team had their senior day spoiled Saturday as they dropped a 9-0 decision to No. 6 Pomona-Pitzer dropping them to 9-10, 3-5 SCIAC.
A clean sweep in doubles by the Sagehens put the Poets in an early hole 3-0. Meagan Zamilpa was again pulled out of the singles lineup due to an injury forcing Adrienne Hamada to play No. 1 against No. 50 Samantha Chao where she fell 6-1, 7-5.
The match of the day belonged to freshman Gabi Etchegaray who couldn't survive a third set against Arthi Padmanabhan falling 6-0, 4-6, 10-1. This would be the closest the Poets would get to a point on the morning as they would get swept the rest of the way, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5, and 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6.
Whittier begins preparing for the Ojai Tennis Championships set to take place this weekend, April 25-27 up in Ventura, Calif. Draws are posted at the Ojai Championships Official Site.
