ORANGE, Calif. – The Whittier College women's water polo team wrapped up their 2014 regular season Saturday cruising past Chapman University 10-4 to finish 20-15, 6-2 SCIAC.
Whittier will enter the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships as the No. 3 seed behind Pomona-Pitzer (No 1) and Claremont-M-S (No. 2). The Championships will take place next weekend Friday-Sunday, April 25-27 at Whittier College.
The Purple & Gold held a 5-3 advantage at the break and used a 4-0 run with two coming from Cynthia Castillo to open the third quarter that put the game out of reach.
Whittier led 3-1 after the first quarter of play with goals from Jenel Rivera, Jasmine Villalpando, and Sabrina Carlile. Chapman would come back to tie the game up midway through the second but goals from Castillo and Hayley Parker would give the Poets the two goal edge at the break.
The Poets would hold the Panthers scoreless in the third quarter, while adding four to move the score to 9-3. Arlin De La Mora would add the tenth goal to open the fourth and despite a five meter being converted by CU it wouldn't be enough as Whittier would roll to the lopsided victory.
Whittier opens the SCIAC Championships as the No. 3 seed and will take on No. 6 Occidental College on Friday, April 25 at 4:00pm.
