WHITTIER, Calif. - For the second consecutive year the Whittier College women's water polo team has finished 3rd in the SCIAC Standings following a 10-6 victory over Redlands to cap off the 2014 SCIAC Women's Water Polo Championships.
Annie Kinney opened up the scoring for Redlands at the 4:51 mark until Cynthia Castillo answered with the equalizer with five seconds to play in the quarter converting on a man-up situation.
Jae Crabtree and Isabella Gorrocino would add the lone goals in the second for the Purple & Gold as they would take a 3-1 halftime lead.
In the third they would keep with their momentum adding the first three goals from Jenel Rivera, Gorrocino, and Sabrina Carlile that extended the score to 6-1.
Redlands would stop the run with 2:31 to play from Taylor Christie but Carlile again would find the back of the goal to push the Poets back in front five.
In the fourth a combined seven goals were scored with the Bulldogs outscoring the Poets 4-3 but it wouldn't be enough as Whittier would hold on for the 10-6 victory.
Castillo, Carlile, and Gorrocino all had two goals each, while Melissa Pinlac, Crabtree, Laurel Pinkley, and Rivera all recorded one.
Whittier concludes the Championships 2-1 for 3rd Place and finished the 2014 Season 22-16, 8-3 SCIAC.
