WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College women's tennis team fought hard against No. 18 Redlands Friday trailing 2-1 after doubles but were swept in singles dropping an 8-1 decision.
The lone point came from Meagan Zamilpa (Hacienda Heights, Calif.) and Gabi Etchegaray (Placentia, Calif.) at No. 1 doubles who earned a huge 8-3 win over Natalie Etchegaray and Ceara Sumida.
The Poets were swept at No. 2 and No. 3 and it carried over into singles where the Bulldogs swept the competition despite tough matches at the top. Zamilpa dropped a tough 6-3, 6-4 match to Etchegaray at No. 1 and G. Etchegaray fell at No. 3 against Lauren Villanueva 6-3, 6-4.
