LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Whittier College women's basketball team dropped their second straight game Saturday as they fell on the road 69-55 to Occidental College dropping to 7-17, 4-11 SCIAC.
The Poets had no answer for Erin Matsumoto who poured in a game high 29 points on 12 of 16 shooting. She added 12 points in the first half that helped the Tigers take a 12 point lead into the break and put in a big second half helping Oxy extend their lead to as many as 20 points midway through the third.
Whittier who was without Priscilla Rodriguez (East Los Angeles, Calif.) and Christine Miller (Gilbert, AZ) who were out with injury relied on Kate Nakano (San Francisco, Calif.) off the bench who had 11 points on 4 of 9 shooting in 23 minutes of action.
Ana Youngblood (Berkeley, Calif.) was big in the paint with 11 boards, while Jocelyn Calvillo (Costa Mesa, Calif.) added six points and seven rebounds.
Whittier returns home for PAC the GAC, tomorrow, Tuesday, February 23 with game time set for 7:00pm.
Whittier doesn't graduate any players from its 2015-16 team.
