WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College women's water polo team continues to roll here in 2016 as they dominated the competition Wednesday evening beating Occidental College 13-6 before rolling past Siena College 15-5 in the nightcap.

Whittier improves to 6-1, 1-0 SCIAC on the young season and holds firm onto the No. 1 slot in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Div. III Polls.

Game 1 (Occidental College; W 13-6)

The first game of the doubleheader the Poets took on Occidental College in their first conference match-up of the season.  This marked the second time the Purple & Gold have played the Tigers with their last win coming in the Whittier Mini-Tournament where they won 19-4.

All 20 players on the roster saw pool time with Isabella Gorrocino (Commerce, Calif.) adding four goals to lead the Purple & Gold.

The Poets dominated from start to finish holding Oxy to just three goals in the first half, while taking a demanding 8-3 lead at intermission thanks to a five spot put up in the second quarter.  Out of the half, Whittier added the first three tallies to move the score to 11-3 before the Tigers stopped the bleeding at the 1:33 mark.

In the fourth both teams added two goals apiece but it would be a gap to much to overcome for Oxy as Whittier would roll to the lopsided victory.

Jasmine Villalpando (Commerce, Calif.) and Angelica Hernandez (Pico Rivera, Calif.) each recorded two goals apiece.

Game 2 (Siena College; W, 15-5)

For the second straight game all 20 players on the roster saw pool time with Cynthia Castillo (Los Angeles, Calif.) adding four goals to lead the Purple & Gold.

The Poets dominated from start to finish holding Siena to just two goals in the first half, while taking a demanding 8-2 lead at intermission.  Whittier and Siena combined for just three goals in the third quarter as the defensive units stood strong but in the fourth, WC was able to add four strikes to their total that put the game out of reach.

Kendyl Riley (Huntington Beach, Calif.), Zyania Morales (Commerce, Calif.), and Villalpando each recorded two goals apiece.

Whittier remains at home this weekend as they host Claremont-M-S and Cal State Monterey Bay this Saturday, February 27 beginning at 9:00am and 3:00pm.
