LA VERNE, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Water Polo team earned their third consecutive trip to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship Final Saturday as they made quick work of Cal Lutheran University 16-7 at Las Flores Pool.

The SCIAC Winning streak extends now to 21 games as the Purple & Gold move their 2017 record to 19-14 and a perfect 10-0 SCIAC as they seek a three-peat for the SCIAC Championship Title.

The final game will occur tomorrow, Sunday, April 23 against Pomona-Pitzer with game time set for 3:00pm.  The previous meeting this season was won by Whittier back on March 25 in a one-goal victory 9-8.

The last time the Poets and Regals played back on March 29, Whittier was able to hold on for the 6-5 win in OT on the road but this time around dominated on both ends of the pool making their presence felt from the opening whistle.

It was a high scoring first quarter with a combined 11 goals being scored.  The Poets though held the advantage at 7-4 led by Isabella Gorrocino (East Los Angeles, Calif.) who tallied three during the frame, which included converting a 5-meter penalty at the 7:25 mark.

In the second, the Poets held CLU to just a goal, while opening the game up with another five moving the score to 12-5 at the half.  During this period, WC added four straight to jump start the scoring with connections coming from Jenel Rivera (Whittier, Calif.) (2), Zyania Morales (Commerce, Calif.), and Lindsay Shoaff (Costa Mesa, Calif.) (2).

Out of the half, the Regals were held scoreless, while Arlin De La Mora (Commerce, Calif.) and Morales tacked on another two for Whittier.  Then in the 4th, both teams added tallies but it wouldn't be enough for a comeback as the Purple & Gold would earn their third trip to the Championship final.

Katia Montoya (Riverside, Calif.) and Caitlin Bronzan (Brentwood, Calif.) each earned time between the posts.  Montoya finished with four saves and Bronzan with three.
