THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Water Polo team saw their three game winning streak come to an end Saturday morning at the hands of the Regals of Cal Lutheran University falling 11-4 at the Samuelson Aquatics Center.
Whittier now drops to 5-9, 3-3 SCIAC and currently sit 4th in the SCIAC Standings.
Offense was tough to come by for the Purple & Gold as they put up a goal in the first and third quarters, before tacking on another two over the final eight minutes. Anastacia Gonzalez (Montebello, Calif.) deadlocked the game midway through the first quarter, but that would be the lone goal scored in the first half as Whittier trailed 4-1 at intermission.
Kendyl Riley (Huntington Beach, Calif.) found the back of the net for the Poets' second connection on the day to start off the third keeping the deficit at three. But another two strikes by CLU would move the score to 7-2 after three quarters of play.
In the final frame, Whittier put together a comeback with Lindsay Shoaff (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Riley adding tallies but it wasn't enough as CLU would add insurance with another four goals that put the game out of reach.
Whittier outshot Cal Lutheran 16-12 and was 0-5 on power play opportunities.
Whittier returns to the pool next Saturday, March 24 when they host a full day of games with Caltech (11:00am), Azusa Pacific (12:30pm), and Brown (4:00pm).
