LA VERNE, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Water Polo team was stunned Wednesday night as they fell to the University of La Verne 10-6 at Las Flores Pool.

Whittier has now lost seven of their last eight and drop to 2-8, 0-2 SCIAC.

It was back and forth in the first quarter with ULV holding a lead 4-3.  Whittier had goals from Anastacia Gonzalez (Montebello, Calif.), Lindsay Shoaff (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and Kendyl Riley (Huntington Beach, Calif.).  It was another tight frame in the second with the Leos again holding a one goal advantage 3-2.  Riley and Gonzalez combined for the two goals that kept WC within two at 7-5 at the break.

In the third, offense was tough to come by for the Poets being held to just one goal over the final 16:00 minutes.  La Verne outscored them 3-0 in the third and despite holding a 1-0 advantage in the final stanza it wasn't enough to top the Leopards on the road.

Whittier outshot La Verne 33-18 and was 1-6 on power-play opportunities.  The Poets won all four sprints for the game and saw freshman Noa Cravens (Laie, HI) finish with four saves and three steals between the posts.

Whittier remains in SCIAC competition this Saturday, March 10 when they welcome in Chapman University beginning at 11:00am.
