Whittier wins third straight; Beat Oxy 7-2

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Tennis team continues to roll as they beat Occidental College 7-2 on the road.

The Purple & Gold have now won three in a row and improve to 5-6, 1-0 SCIAC.

Whittier took two of three in doubles.  Kindall Yeung (Brea, Calif.) and Amanda Rodriguez (Glendora, Calif.) took out Pelletier and Wright at the top spot 8-4 and were followed by the No. 2 team of Kallysta Lopez (Whittier, Calif.) and Avery Turner (Austin, TX) who also cruised to the 8-4 win.  WC had their opportunities in the third match from Madeline Schmidt-Perez (San Marino, Calif.) and Stacey Bendanillo (Brawley, Calif.) but couldn't grab a late break falling in a breaker 8-7 (4).

The momentum stayed with the Poets in singles taking five of six.  Lopez rolled at No. 4 winning 6-0, 6-1, Yeung cruised to the 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 1 and Schmidt-Perez pulled out a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5. 

Rodriguez faced a test in the opening frame at No. 2 but pulled it out 6-4 before rolling 6-1 in the second.  The final point came from Kiara Embrey (Los Angeles, Calif.) at No. 6 who needed a first set breaker to pull out a straights set win 7-6, 6-1.
