WHITTIER, Calif. (Nov. 17, 2022) - A trio of Poet juniors were voted by coaches as All-SCIAC selections, the conference announced Thursday morning.
Long snapper Zackery Duhala was Whittier's lone First Team selection, slotting into the Special Teams spot. The Imperial Beach native skillfully snapped for 52 of the Poets' 60 punts this season and recorded a 100% snap efficiency on eight points after touchdown/field goals.
Wide receiver Jalen Jolley and offensive lineman Mathias Talavou each earned an All-SCIAC Second Team nod.
Jolley, a transfer in his lone year with the Poets, posted three 100-plus yard games and a team-leading three touchdowns. His 546 receiving yards this past season ranked fifth in the conference, and his 74-yard touchdown reception Oct. 22 against Chapman went down as the fourth-longest reception in the SCIAC in 2022.
Talavou, a St. John Bosco product, was Whittier's top offensive lineman this season and one of the best in the conference. The 6-foot-3, 355-pound Bellflower native provided key protection, leadership and experience to the young offense.
Congratulations to all three of these talented young men! Your futures are bright.
