WHITTIER, Calif. (Feb. 5, 2022) – Senior Ahmad Young (Sunnyvale, Calif. / De Anza College) and junior Bryant Howing (Hacienda Heights, Calif. Rio Hondo College) of the Whittier College men's basketball team each pocketed 17 points against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in Saturday's home SCIAC game.
Both players successfully followed up their impressives performances against the University of Redlands on Wednesday night when the Poets scored 103 points. Young did everything he could to keep the Poets in the game, adding a 6-for-6 day from the free throw line to go with nine rebounds and six assists. Four of his rebounds came on the offensive end. Howing, meanwhile, had himself a perfect day from deep, going 4-for-4 to help keep the Poets afloat. Ultimately, the home team would succumb to the first-place Stags' offensive efficiency and defensive shell, something not uncommon for many SCIAC teams this season, but Whittier did do a sufficient job of taking care of the basketball. The Poets' 12 turnovers came in well below their SCIAC average this season and on a better shooting day remain a threat to any team in the conference.
Head Coach Mark Jensen and the Poets will waste no time looking to get back on track when they host Chapman University (15-2, 7-2 SCIAC) on Monday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m.
