Box Score

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (Jan. 25, 2023) - Junior Citlalli Gurrola poured in a career-high 17 points in her seventh start of the season, but the Poets fell to the Tigers Wednesday night.

The former UNLV Rebel also got to the free-throw line a career-high eight times, sinking seven free throws.

Whittier was playing short-handed, with just eight of its players seeing action. As a result, the visiting team trailed the entire way, ultimately falling by 14 points.

The team's leading scorer, Rhe Nae Leach, scored 15 points but shot just 33.3% from the field and 50% on free throws, fouling out in 27 minutes.

Also of note, Lainie James recorded three blocks, three assists and three rebounds, and Lizzie Scriven drained 2-for-3 three-pointers.

Occidental dominated the offensive glass, 21-14, and in second-chance points, 14-3.

The Poets next take the court 5 p.m. Saturday at Pomona-Pitzer in a matchup between two of the conference's best players: the aforementioned Leach and Madison Quan.
