CLAREMONT, Calif. (Nov. 5, 2023) – The Whittier College men's swimming & diving team put on solid display of performances at the first SCIAC Tri-Meet of the season on Saturday afternoon. The Poets competed against host team Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, as well as Chapman University. Both are firmly among the list of SCIAC Championship contending teams this year.
Considering the level of competition, the Whittier men performed admirably, with talented freshman
Thomas Langlois (Haut-Richelieu, QC, Canada) shining once again and rolling to second-place finish in the 1000 free (9:49.66). The impressive time put him a mere four seconds shy of the school record, which was set by teammate
Nicolas Friedley (Aptos, Calif. / Aptos) last season. Langlois also earned a third-place finish in the 500 free, touching the wall for a time of 4:48.36.
Junior
Nick Coltrin (Livermore, Calif. / Granada), meanwhile, also stood out for the Purple & Gold, earning himself a third-place finish in the 50 Free, where he clocked in at 21.68 seconds. Junior classmate Friedley, meanwhile, showcased his versatility in the pool with two fifth-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke and 400 IM, with times of 59.98 and 4:21.28, respectively.
Head Coach
Michael Jafari and the Poets are looking forward to hosting their first meet of the 2023 season, which will see them go head-to-head with California Lutheran University on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m.
