Poets Dominate in Singles, Yet Narrowly Fall to Pioneers

WHITTIER, Calif. (Feb. 12, 2023) - The Whittier College women's tennis team dropped a close contest to Lewis & Clark College on Sunday by a score of 5–4.

Junior Keeley Arendt, sophomore Manasvi Vardham, junior Maci Davis and first-year Malvika Suryavanshi helped get the Poets on the board and put the team in a great position. The Poets took advantage in singles, winning four of the six singles contests on the day. In all four, the Poets won in straight sets.

However, the Pioneers swept the Poets in doubles contests in the afternoon, earning three points. The pairs of sophomore Jasmine Saunders/Suryavanshi, Arendt/Davis and Vardham/senior Emily List all dropped close contests to their Pioneer coutnerparts.

In the end, Lewis & Clark rode to victory on the backs of their three double wins and two single contest wins.

The Poets return to action at home on Saturday, Feb. 18, against Chapman University at 2 p.m.
