WHITTIER, Calif. (March, 15, 2023)- The Poets took on the Sagehens in a tough SCIAC matchup tonight at the Lillian Slade Aquatics Center at Whittier College. The girls played hard, but in the end could not keep pace with Pomona and lost  

As the first period began Pomona was able to take a 1-0 lead, but Whittier was ready to fight back. Jaycee Morris did what she has been doing all year and took over in the pool. Morris scored 2 unanswered goals to give the Poets a 2-1 lead. This advantage though would not last as the Sagehens scored 3 more in the period to lead 4-2 after the first. 

Pomona opened up the second period right where they left off and netted another one. Chloe Gardhouse though was able to bring the Poets within 2 of Pomona scoring her first goal of the game. The Sagehens did not stop there and continued to dominate in the second finding the back of the net 3 more times and held a 8-3 advantage at the half. 

The second half began with another 5 goals for Pomona. They had a 13-3 advantage over Whittier headed to the final period. 

In the final period the girls just could not keep up with the Sagehens' deep bench. Morris once again tried to inch the Poets closer scoring another 2 goals. Haley Kivett also was able to score her first goal in this final period,  Pomona took full control of this game and wound up winning 17-6. Morris would lead the Poets in scoring with 4 goals of ther own. 

Whittier will be back in action next Wednesday as they will travel to Cal Lutheran. This will be another important SCIAC matchup for the Poets and it will begin at 4:00.
