Box Score THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (March 22, 2023)- The women traveled to Thousand Oaks today to take on the Cal Lutheran Regals. The Poets kept the game close in the first half, but could not keep up in the second and would fall 12-6.
In the first period the Regals took a 3-1 lead over the Poets. Jaycee Morris continued to be a dominate force in the middle of the pool and scored her first goal of the day, but Whittier did not get much more going.
As the second began, Whittier's offense began to click better. After allowing 2 more goals to Cal Lu, Morris found the back of the net again. This goal was followed by another one by Grace Arnsparger. Ally Burke was then able to load up and finish off the Poets 3-0 run, with a goal of her own. The score was 5-4 Cal Lu, as the teams headed to the half.
The Regals took over in the third quarter of this game. They were able to score 4 unanswered goals to begin the period and the score was now 9-4. In the final 2 minutes of the period Whittier was able to get open for a shot and Haley Kivett lasered one in.
Morris opened up the final period with her third goal of the day and it looked like Whittier had some life, only trailing 9-6. However, Cal Lutheran did not want to give up this game and end it on another 3-0 run. The Regals would walk away with a 12-6 victory.
The Poets have a very busy weekend, with 4 games in less than 48 hours (3 of which will be against Division 1 programs). They will first travel to Los Angeles to play Occidental in a SCIAC matchup, on Saturday at 11:00. They will then return home to take on Indiana University at 5:00 that night. The following morning Whittier will be hosting a round robin tournament with Brown and CSUN. The Poets will matchup against Cal State Northridge at 9:00, Northridge will then take on Brown at noon, followed by Whittier against Brown at 3:00.
