WHITTIER, Calif. (March 29, 2023)- The Poets took on the Redlands Bulldogs tonight in a SCIAC matchup. Both teams played hard, but in the end the Bulldogs defeated the Poets 7-5. 

To begin the game, the Bulldogs were able to score a quick goal less than one minute into the first. However, Whittier was ready to fight back. Amelia Bennett scored the first goal for the Poets, and her goal was followed by Jaycee Morris firing one past the goalie. At the end of the first period Whittier held a 2-1 lead. 

The second period began and Redlands tied the game up at 2 quickly. Ally Burke then answered for Whittier, firing a bullet past the goalie to put Whittier back on top. The game continued to be a back and forth battle, as Redlands scored 2 more goals to take a 4-3 lead into the half. 

Whittier and Redlands continued to battle against each other in the pool as both teams were playing a very physical game. Bennett took advantage of a lull in the Bulldogs defense and was able to score her second goal of the night. Redlands took the lead back with a penalty shot and another nice shot, this would end the third period 6-4 Bulldogs. 

In the final period, the teams tightened up their defenses even more. Late in the period, Morris found the back of the net for the second time this game; Whittier was now only trailing 6-5. Redlands pulled away at the end to win this game 7-5. 

Chloe Gardhouse and Emily Flores played well on the defensive end, as each of them were able to come away with 2 steals. 

Whittier will hit the road this weekend, as they travel to CMS to take on the Athenas. This SCIAC battle will take place at 11:00 in the morning, with the Poets looking to get back in the win column.
