Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Dydell Continues Offensive Streak at CMS

The junior has a point in all but two games this season

CLAREMONT, Calif. (Sept. 23, 2023) -- Junior striker Lawrence Dydell (Redmond, Wash. / Woodinville) of the Whittier College men's soccer team got on the stat sheet with his first assist of 2023 at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday evening.

The Poets were looking to make it two consecutive victories following their 4-0 drubbing of the University of La Verne. However, the stout Stags presented a different kind of challenge to the Purple & Gold, who found a tougher time lighting up the scoreboard. Whittier's lone goals of the evening came when Dydell, along with freshman winger Nils Degardin, fed freshman Kevin Bravo in the 15th minute to halve the lead the host Stags held at the time. However, the always deep and experienced Stags found openings as well as a consistent offensive flow for the full 90 minutes, something the Poets will look to maintain in future outings.

Freshman Breckon Robirds played the entire game in net for the Poets. He made three saves over the full 90 minutes, playing well at times in the face of the Stags' relentless offensive attack.

With Dydell's assist, the junior currently finds himself in pole position on the team with 15 points (seven goals, one assist). His seven goals also have him positioned in a tie for third among SCIAC players.

Head Coach Shea Harwell and the Poets will try to right the ship when they host SCIAC foe Caltech on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. They will need to halt the Beavers' moment, as Wednesday's rivals are coming off back-to-back SCIAC wins for the first time ever.
