Bravo's Goal, Assist Helps Poets at Pomona-Pitzer

The sophomore took ownership of the attack, factoring in on both of Whittier's goals

WHITTIER, Calif. (Oct. 25, 2024) – Sophomore forward Kevin Bravo (Paramount, Calif. / Paramount) of the Whittier College men's soccer team made the mark in one of his best games of the season to date, earning a goal and an assist on the road at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.

Given the Poets' SCIAC standing, Saturday's game classified as a must-win and while they ultimately came up short on the scoreboard, the team's tenacity was on full display after a string of tough results. Bravo's first point of the game came on a nice pass that set up a goal from freshman striker Owen Nance (Salt Lake City, Utah / East). Nance has been the victim of some bad luck this year, but nevertheless was able to score his second goal of the season 20 minutes into Saturday's game to stake the visitors to an early lead.

Pomona-Pitzer found the equalizer just seven minutes later, but with both teams knotted at a goal apiece in the second half, Bravo found an opening and took his turn at beating the Sagehens' defense. The sophomore scored off a dish from senior midfielder Jazey Zavala (Pomona, Calif. / Diamond Ranch / Fullerton College), and gave his side plenty of momentum to carry into the game's final 40 minutes. Perhaps just as impressively, Bravo contributed offensively despite coming off the bench, and went on to play 60 hard minutes in what was a positive look into the program's future in the coming years ahead.

Head Coach Shea Harwell and the Poets will play two more games in the SCIAC regular season. They will first travel to the University of La Verne on Wednesday night, Oct. 30, for a 7 p.m. game as they look to avenge a home defeat to the Leopards.
