Poets Rally at Redlands in Wild 3-3 Tie

Whittier's offensive contributors stepped up in a big way to give the Poets a huge road point

REDLANDS, Calif. (Oct. 11, 2025) – The Whittier College men's soccer team needed a handful of scoring contributions but ultimately came through with two late goals to finish in a 3-3 draw with perennial SCIAC powerhouse University of Redlands in a Saturday evening road contest.

The Poets, in the midst of an all-time season for the program, have rarely needed to come from behind this season and have been generally at their best when front-running. However, while the Bulldogs entered Saturday's game with just five points in six games, they showed they are still a force to be reckoned with, tagging the visitors with a pair of early goals that forced the Poets to find a new path forward. However, the Poets remained cool, calm and collected, and it didn't take long for junior midfielder Nicholas Coop (La Mirada, Calif. / La Mirada) to bang home his third goals of the week, sixth of the season, to cut the deficit in half. Sophomore outside back Jack Hindmarsh (Kristianstad, Sweden / Furulund School) assisted on the goal.

When the Bulldogs answered Coop's goal with a brace of their own, the Poets once again found themselves in need of some offense. First, senior Milton Oliveira (Los Angeles, Calif. / North Torrance Santa Monica College) came off the bench ahead of the 78th minute to score the Poets' second goal of the game on a nice run with assists from sophomores Anthony Dolce (Salt Lake City, Utah / East) and Ben Harrison (Salt Lake City, Utah / Olympus). Shortly after, the Poets made good on a Nils DeGardin (Paris, France / Lake Washington) corner kick that found freshman defender Jack Born (Stockholm, Sweden / Bromma Gymnasium) for the game-tying goal with just six minutes to go in regulation. The Poets kept the pressure on from that point on, and while they were unable to come up the winner, they showed incredible resolve in a hostile environment and an ability to adapt to the circumstances.

Head Coach Shea Harwell and the Poets will next play a huge home tilt against a reeling albeit ever-dangerous Caltech team on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.
