Alyssa Gonzalez (Glendora, Calif. / St. Lucy's) of the Whittier College women's volleyball team has earned SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week honors for a second time this season.
Gonzalez starred for the Poets defensively during a three-game week in which the Purple & Gold came away with a 2-1 record. They took on No. 1 University of La Verne and defeated the University of Redlands as well as Occidental College over the weekend. Over that stretch, Gonzalez posted 68 digs to boost her team defensively, and the Poets couldn't have done it without her at Oxy, requiring defensive stability to dispatch the Tigers in five sets.
Gonzalez and the Poets will embark on a two-game week as they look to improve upon their SCIAC standing. The week will kick off at home against Chapman University on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.
