WHITTIER, Calif. (Oct. 24, 2025) – The Whittier College women's volleyball team delivered a strong response on Friday night inside the Graham Athletics Center, sweeping the University of Redlands 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-20) to pick up its sixth SCIAC win of the season.

The Poets' offense found its rhythm early and never looked back, hitting .229 in the second set and posting 40 kills on the night. Junior middle blocker Mia D'Amato (Bakersfield, Calif. / Garces) paced the attack with 11 kills while hitting an efficient .280, and freshman outside hitter Lola Padilla (Fontana, Calif. / St. Lucy's) added eight kills of her own at a .278 clip. Senior setter Sophia Padilla (Fontana, Calif. / St. Lucy's) directed the offense with 17 assists and anchored a balanced effort that saw multiple Poets contribute on the stat sheet.

Whittier's serve game also proved crucial, as the team recorded six aces (three coming from D'Amato) and maintained momentum in key stretches. Defensively, Alyssa Gonzalez (Glendora, Calif. / St. Lucy's) collected 17 digs to lead all players, while Sofia Zazueta (La Mirada, Calif. / Orange Lutheran) added 14 more to keep Redlands' hitters in check.

The Poets out-paced the Bulldogs in kills, assists, and service pressure. Whittier sealed the sweep behind a composed finish in the third set, taking six of the final eight points to close the match.

With the win, Whittier improves to 14-8 overall and 6-4 in conference play. Head Coach Chris Duarte-McDermott and the Poets travel to Los Angeles on Saturday, Oct. 25, for a 4 p.m. matchup with Occidental College.
